THE NORMAN ARMY
A loose collection of NEBA bridge players have formed into a regular walking group. Today, for the first time in their history two walkers failed to complete the saunter between Warkworth and Alnmouth. The group's next expedition will be a gentle 5 mile stroll on Sunday 30th June at Bolam Lake.
Can you recognise the magnificent seven on today's walk - Wed, 26th June?
A NEW HAND OF THE WEEK
Steve Ray has kindly offered to contribute his analysis of a 'Hand of the Week' for Brunton Bridge Club. Steve, one of the NEBA's Grand Masters, is the 3rd top player to volunteer their services in this way and it is always a privilege to see how a great bridge brain deals with the bidding, play and defence in this infuriating game. FREE NIGHT AT CRAMLINGTON BRIDGE CLUB
At a recent meeting of NEBA club chairmen and secretaries, suggestions were discussed as to how to encourage more people, including less experienced players, to participate in club bridge. As part of this initiative, people attending bridge classes and any newcomers are invited to join us at Cramlington Bridge Club for a friendly evening of Duplicate Bridge, free of charge, on Friday 28th June. We look forward to welcoming you to our club. - Peter Dodds

BRUNTON BRIDGE CLUB BOOK
With Brunton Bridge Club's trophies full of names, the committee came up with an innovative way to replace their cups and salvers. They opted for a smart 'album of information' that records past and present winners of each of the club's competitions with a montage of previous winners and an archive of the results.
The book, a comprehensive archive, includes a history of the club, a photo gallery of present players, national achievements of its members etc. It is updated and presented annually to a worthy recipient but the books remains in the club for others to peruse during that year.
The page above shows past winners of two of the most recent club competitions.
The new NEBA Congress Secretary Gill Gold and her husband David, were last year's recipients of the book for their services to the club over many years. The 2013 book will be presented at Brunton's June AGM to - -?
WINNERS & FINALISTS IN THE 2013 KEMPSON
The Kempson Cup was won by Martin Kane’s team – Martin Kane, Dave Broadhead, Damian Hassan & Bill March.
They beat Dave Roberts team in a match played in good spirit. Congratulations to Bill, who has now won the Kempson Cup at least 20 times since 1981.
The Kempson Plate Final will be between teams captained by Nigel Durie & Ian Rankin.
DAVE'S BIDDING MACHINE
Dave Dansie from Ryton Bridge Club has just released an amazing bidding programme which is great fun to use.
Like every bridge partner, the computer will not bid perfectly every time, but having the opportunity to see the two hands at the end of the auction should enable you to decide what bids 'might' have got you to the best contract.

CRAMLINGTON LOSE TWO BOARDS
Cramlington Bridge Club were probably the only NEBA club to play 26 boards in an evening.
At their 2013 AGM, members voted to return to the more normal 24 boards. It had been mentioned that the number of boards played each night may have been a factor in deterring some players.
INTER CLUB COMMENTRIES
It is great to see that many NEBA webmasters are now writing reports on their club's matches during the promotion/relegation excitement of the Inter Club Teams competition. A little bit of inter club rivalry certainly adds interest to a club's website.
I do try to visit the various NEBA club websites to find other items of interest from around the region and it is very much appreciated when webmasters e-mail local information that can be shared with the wider NEBA community.
