DIRECTOR'S COURSE - NOW CANCELLED - 4th Sept. 2012

The numbers for the Course next Saturday (8th September) are very low – so low indeed that if we cannot recruit further members then it won’t go ahead.

The course covers the role of the Club Director, the basics of movements and scoring and an introduction to the Law Book. There is now a greater emphasis on people-handling issues and the skills needed to ensure that a harmonious and happy atmosphere is maintained within the Club duplicate. Correspondingly, there is less emphasis on scoring; as even the smallest club usually now uses computer scoring. Players new to directing are now strongly recommended to attend this course as the first in the series.

There is a mixture of presentation, discussions, quizzes and simulations.
The course costs £37.  The EBU are currently running a two-for-one offer, where if one member of a club is attending, a second member can attend free. There is more information about the course at http://www.ebu.co.uk/lawsandethics/td-training/td_essentials.htm.

Anyone who is interested in attending the course should contact John Pain (01296317218 or john@ebu.co.uk) or Peter Jordan (01296317203 or peter@ebu.co.uk.)

I’ve told those on the course that I would let them know on Monday so there is a cut off point of Monday afternoon 4.30pm

HOMEWORK FOR STUDENTS

Dave Dansie and I are working on an interactive learning programme linked to our teaching booklets.

Dave's software design will offer our students in the comfort of their own home, the ability to play out hands that they have covered in class. They can work at their own pace and get 'one to one' guidance from the computer as to why the hand should be played in a particular way.

Dave Dansie, an incredibly clever programmer has done 95% of the work, (the technical stuff) and although there may be more sophisticated software on the market his design offers a unique opportunity for our students to reinforce their learning. We hope to have it ready for the new term. ------------Neil Aiston

After many years at Allensford, the NEBA has a new venue for their 2012 congress. The new venue is the Marriott Hotel, alongside the Metro Centre in Gateshead. More details will follow but the executive are confident that this venue will become an excellent and regular feature in the NEBA calendar for many years to come. Book early!
