BRIDGE CLASSES - NEWCASTLE Jan. 2011

Despite the disappointing numbers we will continue the Wednesday afternoon duplicate for one more term.

The 1st MONDAY PLAY session is on the 10th Jan. (3rd Jan. is a Bank Holiday).
The 1st WEDNESDAY PLAY session is on the 12th Jan.

CLASSES begin again -  Week beginning 17th Jan.
6 weeks followed by a break of TWO weeks then 5 weeks. 
(The additional week is to compensate for the week we missed last term).

We would appreciate an early indication of your intention, by phoning, e-mailing or signing up on a Monday afternoon.

BEGINNER'S BRIDGE   If you have friends who want to learn from scratch, please let us know as soon as possible. This term we will introduce the group to the ACOL bidding system.

UNIT 4. BASIC DEFENCE  Inga's group will be introduced to the hardest part of this game, defence. What do leads mean? How can you give partner clues about your hand?

Begins Jan. 20th

Monday Morning 10-12

PARTNERSHIP UNDERSTANDING
Inga's group will look at possible partnership agreements. Many, like 4th suit forcing, negative doubles and cue bids are particularly under used. Signalling in defence requires co-operation & practise. What should you play?

Begins Jan. 17th

Monday Afternoon 12.45 - 2-45 pm

BRIDGE CONSOLIDATION  Neil's group will continue with revision of the basics and explore how 'the basics' can be developed creatively. Bidding, declarer play and defence.

Thursday afternoon 12.45 - 2.45 pm

UNIT 5.  BEYOND THE BASICS Neil will recap on the first two years and look in more detail at declarer play techniques and signalling in defence

Monday Morning 10-12

BIDDING FOR CLUB PLAYERS  Neil will continue to illustrate the importance of standard Acol bidding and suggest a few conventions that regular partnerships should consider.

Begins Jan. 17th

Wednesday Morning 10-12

DECLARER PLAY  & DEFENCE - Neil will follow the popular format of using recent hands to illustrate what can go wrong at the table and offer reminders about  play techniques.
