General NEBA Competition Rules 2009

a) Except where specified, entry is restricted to paid up members of the Association.

b) Clubs will be charged table money for players who enter any event but fail to attend without giving adequate notice.

c) For Direct Entry events (Nos.9 to 16), players may enter via their Club Secretaries or directly via the Competition Secretary by the Wednesday before the event. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the Tournament Director in charge. No entry fee is payable with the entry but table money will be charged at the event.

d) If entry is made by e-mail, an acknowledgment should be requested.

e) It is the responsibility of players to ensure that their entry has been received.

f) Entry fees for all other events should be sent to the appropriate Tournament Secretary, except where they are paid at a qualifying heat and forwarded by the Club concerned.

g) All players are requested to show EBU membership numbers on table slips.

h) All NEBA finals will start promptly at 2:00 pm. Players should be seated by 1:50 pm.
Finals will be played over 2 sessions and play will normally finish by 9:15 pm.

I) EBU non-smoking rules are to be applied to all NEBA events.

j) No substitutes are permitted in semi-finals or finals of pairs events.

k) In the Kempson Vases final, a Team-of-Four may field one substitute.

I) In all other Teams-of-Four events, a team may enter up to 6 players in total, provided that none of the 6 has played for any other team in the event during the season.

m) Bidding boxes will be used in all finals of NEBA competitions.

n) Level 4 systems and conventions are allowed in all NEBA Competitions, with the exception of the Newcomers Pairs & other beginners events, where only Level 2 systems and conventions are permitted. Both players in a partnership must have identically completed convention cards for exchanging with theiropponents.

Events played initially in Clubs will incur no additional entry fee for players participating, other than the fee of £1-00 charged for NEBA Simultaneous Pairs heats, but there will be a charge of £3-00, payable at the event, for players in the Chronicle Cups semi-finals.

Results of qualifying heats should reach the Tournament Secretary no more than one week after the last date for heats.
