A 2NT opening bid could include a 5-card major.
Puppet Stayman allows you to locate 5-3 major suit fits without losing  4-4 fits or transfer bids.

Holding either of the following hands as responder to a 2NT opening,  3NT may not be the best spot.
ª873  ©K64  ¨A9862  §32         or         ª6  ©QJ5  ¨KJ92  §96542
The ability to locate a possible 5/3 fit in either major would obviously improve your system!

(Ensuring that opener always plays the contract.)
